Geocache Description:

A small container hidden at a high and dry spot, unless the glacier cuts loose again! It's about 1/2 mile from the beach, with decent access up the streambed. We made this hide while out exploring on our 30th anniversary!

The fun points of this cache will be several. Have a great boat ride out to Thumb Cove, six miles south of Seward. Enjoy the shoreline and fantastic views of the basaltic cliffs and hanging glaciers of Thumb Cove. Check out the two state park cabins, the Porcupine Glacier cabin and the Spruce Glacier cabin. Explore the fantastic area below the Porcupine Glacier, where an apparent subglacial lake outburst flood, or jokulhlaup, during the heavy rainfall in October 2006 has rebuilt the entire outwash plain, leaving a valley bottom buried in new rock and gravel. Tree tops stick out of the deposits, skinned trees are twisted around boulders, deep ravines have been blasted out, and the glacier stream that once ran to the ocean now sinks into the loose rock and is absorbed. Bring good hiking boots, but no worries about brush; it's all been buried.
