Willow Island Cache Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

netleyhunter: Due to the extremly high water in Lake Winnipeg and Netley Marsh, this cache if I were to replace it would be washed away in the first north wind. Therefore I will archive it and maybe in a few years if the water drops I can replace it.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located right in the middle of Netley/Libau marsh. This cache will take you a couple hours to get to if you're doing it in the spring or summer and you will need a canoe to get to it. In winter you can walk out to it.

Best route is to go on the road from one of my other caches "Trapper's Cabin" and go straight north on this road. At the end of the road take the road that goes northwest. This will take you to a place where you can launch your canoe. After getting in the canoe head east and follow the river (called Prudens Creek) as it turns north. Follow this river all the way to Lake Winnipeg (about 2 km)

At this point it might be a good idea to break out the picnic basket and enjoy you're own private beach!

Head East along the shore of Lake Winnipeg to the first creek going south (called Folsters Creek) Follow this river south. This will lead you very close to the cache.

Cache is a camo water bottle tied to a post.

Please be warned the Netley/Libau marshes are dangerous places. These marshes are directly effected by the wind. I advise not going on days with strong south or north winds. Also these areas are popular hunting areas for waterfowl hunters.

*edit* With the resent trouble a few fellow chachers had with breaking through the ice, I should mention that there are artesian wells located through out the marsh. This can result in areas of thin ice in the winter time. When attempting this cache go in a group and try to stick to the main water channels and not venture into the catails. The directions I gave to get to the cache should be the safest route to travel.

From Sept 8th - freeze up, Please do not try this cache. Nothing annoys hunters more than people out scaring the birds away.
