Geocache Description:

On the north end of the island off Hwy 20. Easy access with ample parking.

While traveling Whidbey Island everyone will pass a very peculiar piece of driftwood. Some say this is not a piece of wood at all, but rather the spirit of a dragon lost at sea; rescued by one of Oak Harbor's originals.

I heard the story of the dragon from one of the relatives of the man who placed the dragon at it's current resting place. This is what he said...

The land that the Dragon stands on was purchased by my grandfather in 1941. His name was Buster; Buster Krieg. We call the dragon “Buster’s Dragon”. Some years ago my grandfather found the dragon lying on the beach. Legend says the dragon found him. He said "It looked at me" and if you look closely you will see the dragon looking at you too. Grandpa hauled the dragon to its current resting place and carefully perched it so it could watch out over the land and sea. Legend says it knows when the weather is going to change. If you look carefully you can see it in the dragon's eye's, just like the look my grandfather use to get in his eye’s. That's why we call it "Buster’s Dragon."

So feel free to stop in for a photo, hot coffee and snack, and fill your tank. Wayne may not be a current geo-cacher but he would love to share the story of his grandfather with anyone who is interested.
