E.P.I.C. 2007 Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

CaptainXJ: Time to put e.p.i.c. to bed. Event was a total success and I will most likely plan one out for the same time next year. Thinking I may go with a puzzle theme for next year!

So what is the E.P.I.C. event and what purpose does it serve?

I began caching in December of 2005. As I attended my first few events I started hearing stories about certain caches again and again. After talking to experienced cachers and doing lots of cache log and forum reading I came to discover another class of caches.

First there were those caches that stood out above the rest. The ones that you could tell people had put a lot of thought or effort into. These caches could range from short to long or easy to hard. However the cache itself always leaves you with a feeling of accomplishment or awe when finished.

Then there are those caches that you see and you just know you have to do. These aren’t the cache and dash type, these are the kind that take hours maybe even days of planning. The ones that you know will challenge your abilities both mentally and physically. These are the caches talked about with wonder by those that haven’t done them and with pride by those that have.

And finally there are the caches that are so sick, so devious, so totally insane they have only been done by the rarest of cacher. Or by those that band together and spend days and perhaps weeks of thought and teamwork into getting a single cache.

I believe I have gathered together a good variety of caches whose type I have described above. Hopefully this event will introduce a new perspective on caching for those who haven’t experienced anything but the norm. Motivate those who have been itching to get out and try some harder more challenging caches but just have not gotten around to it. And bring out the seasoned veterans to share their stories and maybe hint at new ideas.

The Challenge

Finish the six Geocaches listed below. Inside the log of each cache will be an E.P.I.C. code. Plug the code in its corresponding location to find the true waypoint of the event.

A: "24" Episode 24
B: Psycho Urban Cache #7 - A Good Day to Die
C: eXtreme Offroad Cache #3:
X: The Revenge Of Team Psycho #2 -
Y: Diabolical
Z: LOST

Final Coordinates =
N39 45.AB9
W077 35.2YZ

ATTENTION previous cache finders: If you wish to have a code E-Mailed to you of a cache you have previously found, please E-Mail me. After verifying your find I will be glad to E-Mail you the code.

The Picnic

The picnic will be held on September 08 2007 at a private residence. There is available on street and limited off street parking for the picnic. Start time will be noon and food will be served at 1pm. All food will be provided but it is “BYOD” (bring your own drink), we will have ample bottled water and tea however. The current menu items will be:
Hamburgers
Cheeseburgers
Turkey Burgers
Nathan’s Hotdogs
Bush’s Baked Beans
A Vegetable Tray
And Ben N Jerry’s Ice Cream Cones for desert!

All attendees will receive a door prize and there will be a free raffle drawing for prizes including 2 unactivated travel bugs and some other geocache related items.

Important Notes

You may notice that two of the six caches (Extreme Offroad Cache 3 and Revenge of Team Psycho 2) are not published at this time. It was my intention to have three new and three previously published caches as a requirement. However caches such as these are not the type that can be placed at the drop of a hat. Truly great caches of this caliber take months of preparation and coordinating. My cache LOST was in planning for about 18 months, and even after publishing I had to make two maintenance runs to work out the kinks.

It is not my intent to rush the placing of any cache in anyway, therefore I have filled in their codes in the final coordinates.

As an added bonus I will give people credit for any three caches of their choice if they find or have found:
Psycho Urban Cache #13 - Impossible! Give Up Now!

Think of it as a "Get Out of Jail Free" card.

Special thanks to Geeklove2778, Maxboost1998, Vinny and Sue Team, Phideo, and Team Psycho for their help and input on caches and the event.
