Geocache Description:

There is a northbound pullout on Hwy 40 that oversees the coal mine operation.
A FTF certificate has been included, and a wee pencil. Bring your own anyway. There is no room for trade items.

NOTE: The name of the cache refers to both its size and its location outside of Grande Cache, and has nothing to do with the area it is in or the coal mine.

- The H.R. Milner Generation Station is a 143 MW coal-fired power station located near the town of Grande Cache, Alberta, which has been in continuous operation since 1972. Metallurgical coal has been produced in the Grande Cache area since 1969.

- Coal is the world's most abundant fossil fuel. It is a mineral formed from the remains of land-based plants buried hundreds of millions of years ago and subjected to tremendous heat and pressure. Canada is ranked tenth in the world in total proven coal reserves with Alberta's 33.6 Gigatonnes representing 70 per cent of Canada's total reserves.

- The type of coal in this area is bituminous and sub-bituminous. Coal is mostly made of carbon but might also have hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and sulphur in it. Coal in Alberta is generally low in sulphur and therefore burns relatively cleanly compared to many coals mined around the world.
