Geocache Description:

This is a pleasant and educational walk around the Corktown neighbourhood in downtown Toronto.

Corktown is the neighbourhood in downtown Toronto bordered by Berkeley and Shuter streets to the west and north and by the the Don River and Lake Ontario to the east and south. It was originally settled in the early 1800s by Irish immigrant labourers who worked in the many breweries and distilleries in the area. These settlers were largely from County Cork, and it was this connection that gave Corktown its evocative name.

The cache consists of six stages. The first five stages are plaques or monuments that contain information that you will require to find the subsequent stage. The final stage is a 3-inch canister hidden in a tree. Please be respectful of the landscaping at the final location. You will not have to leave the grassy area to retrieve the cache.

The entire trip is just over 1km and should take about an hour to complete by foot. Please avoid the urge to jaywalk. Some of the streets in the neighbourhood are offramps from the DVP and drivers tend to go too fast. There are pedestrian crosswalks nearby.

Parking is available right next to stage 1.

For all stages, assume N43°39, W79°21. For months and days, always use two digits (Jan=01, etc).
