School's Out Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Wis Kid: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Parking available. Handicapped accessible. Crushed pea gravel path to cache area. During winter, this would be available, but not recommended for wheelchairs when snow/ice are on the ground.

Nearly 8 years ago the Brown Deer School District accepted my son into their school system and residents welcomed us as active members in their community for which we are both very thankful.

Brown Deer is only 4.5 square miles but retains several areas of green space and a wide variety of businesses along with a wonderful school system and a broad range of housing within its borders.

I encourage you to come and enjoy some of the local history while you are in Brown Deer geocaching. Although not the original site, the 1884 historic building closest to the cache was moved to its current location July 29, 1972. Restoration was completed in 1973 on the outside and 1976 inside. Take time and read the signs in the area. It is in the National and State Registers of Historic Places and additionally is a Milwaukee County Landmark.

Visiting this cache is NOT recommended on July 4th. Residents take to the streets for events all along the parade route and in the Brown Deer Village Park.

Brown Deer Park Golf Course is a public golf course in the Milwaukee County Park System. This course originated in 1929 and annually the PGA Tour invades this region. I do NOT advise visiting this park at anytime during the preparation for the tour or during the tour itself. If you do visit this park, the original clubhouse which is on site is a historical reference as well.

Family restaurants on Green Bay (Hwy 57) and along Brown Deer Road are available. A charming little grocery store is tucked away just around the corner from this intersection named Larry’s Market. I love to stop in and choose several items for an impromptu picnic lunch or snack. Mmmmmm! Larry went to school with my 86 year old Mother and he still spends some time in the store.

I met with the Brown Deer Village Land / Property Management Russ Van Gumpel, Captain Graeber of the Brown Deer Police Department and Chad Hoier, Brown Deer Park & Recreation Director. They all agreed to allow me to place this cache with some restrictions.

Please be mindful of others while you are in the area. Brown Deer City Hall, Police Department, Fire Department and Park & Recreation Department are housed in the main building near here.

This area is available during daylight hours 7 days a week. Plenty of parking. Swimming pond nearby. Seasonably opened bathrooms. Picnic tables with / without shelters. Play ground area. Separate pond to the north. Historical site open occasionally.

This cache has been placed with consideration for wheelchair bound individuals. Parking lot has a “curb free” area where the crushed pea gravel path leads within a comfortable reach for those who might be physically challenged. Except during the winter when snow is on the ground, this should be available. Great stealth required in retrieving and re-hiding this container. Have fun! Enjoy your visit to Brown Deer.

Small camoflaged container. Please return to the place you remove it from. This is meant to be available for reach but not in sight for public. Check to see that it is secured before you leave the area.
