Geocache Description:

A multicache with a difference. Set of unusual micros take you to a regular final cache.

Apart from the initial stage, this cache is entirely set within the St Katharine Dock complex, so there is not too much walking involved. Once you've cracked Step One and worked out what you're looking for this one will probably take you around an hour.

I'm curious why people aren't attempting this one, feedback via the profile welcomed on how to make it more attractive.

[Sept 2008] I've posted a spoiler in the gallery giving a hint on the intermediate micros and made the hint for step one more explicit

Good surface throughout, buggy and wheelchair friendly. Wheel chair users should be able to get Step Two and Three but may need assistance for Steps One and Four plus retrieving the actual cache.

Tricky Katie: A curious archaeological find

During the renovation of the Dock area an ancient letter was discovered. Whilst much of the writing had completely faded away two phrases remained:

1.       “Twigs and small thin moist eel”

2.       “Ocular Block”

Initially the Archaeologists thought that the first part was a section of a recipe and the second related to an Explorer suffering from DNF! They then realised that they had come across clues to something much more interesting. Following these they collected a set of letters and numbers which ultimately lead them to a treasure.

I suggest that you spend a little time considering what these two phrases might mean as it’ll make your life much easier going forward. Don’t worry if you can not solve the clues, things will be easier if you do, but Step One gives you another way to discover the secrets that will take you to the final treasure.

As with a lot of urban caches you’ll need to be sensitive of local residents and being aware of potential watchers (whether in homes or offices or via security cameras). However, if you are approached by either Police or Security Officers avoid acting suspiciously and explain what you are doing.

*** Parts of this cache are close to water, if you have small children with you keep a close eye on them ***

Step 1: N 51.30.272 W 00.04.087

If you don’t solve the puzzle above, this is make or break. Once you get this one you’ll have a reasonable idea of what you’re looking for going forward – although the subsequent steps are better hidden than this one. This one is deliberately away from the Dock to enable you to get your hand in without attracting too much attention.

There is a hint below if you really need it.

You don’t need to cross the fence or chain to get this one.

Step 2: N 51.30.366 W 00.04.329

Lock. Collect two letters/digits here.

There is a hint below if you really need it.

You won’t be able to get at this one during locking operations (shouldn’t take long for the boat to go through).

Step 3: N 51.30.424 W 00.04.235

Bridge (note: this is a different bridge from when Tricky Katie was first published). Collect two letters/digits here.

There is a hint below if you really need it.

.

Step 4: N 51.30.411 W 00.04.104

Corner. Collect two letters/digits here.

There is a hint below if you really need it.

You don’t need to cross the fence or chain to get this one.

Final stage

This is within the precincts of the St Katharine Dock. Don’t overload it. Make sure it is securely back in its place when you’re done.

You may need to be a bit stealthy for this bit, and possibly a bit patient. Be sensitive to both passers by, occupants of nearby buildings and security cameras.

Thanks to Luzian for saving my bacon on this one when both the online and local copies of this cache went AWOL.
