Geocache Description:

Here is another cache on the TransCanada Trail. The return trip distance is about 8 kms with an approximate elevation gain of 450 metres, all on good trails. I request that the FTF change the name I wrote in the logbook to Jumpingpound Ridge – North from Jumpingpound Ridge – West (I was confused).

The cache is located on the North end of Jumpingpound Ridge very close to the intersection of Cox Hill and Jumpingpound Ridge Trails. I parked on Powderface Trail at WP001 and hiked to the ridge top using the northern section of the Jumpingpound Ridge Trail. This piece of the Jumpingpound Ridge Trail has been designated as part of the TransCanada Trail, taking over that designation from Cox Hill Trail. Once you are on the ridge you may want to wander over to the summit of Jumpingpound Mountain, a distance of about 3 kms (one way) to find j2d2’s Jumpin’ Geocache (GC8EDE). This is a must do ridge-walk through beautiful alpine meadows with continuous awesome views in every direction. I highly recommend that the following two Gem Trek Maps be used as a reference to trails in this area,

1. Bragg Creek & Sheep Valley
2. Canmore & Kananaskis Village

Even though it was June 19th when I placed the cache, I had to deal with about 6 inches of snow, hopefully this will have melted in a day or two and not come back until next December. Under that snow there should be a lot of gorgeous alpine wild flowers – please tread carefully!

The cache is a British ammo can containing a few trading items plus a FTF and STF prize. FTF gets a choice between a $5.00 Tim Horton gift certificate or a guidebook titled “From Grasslands to Rockland’s”. The STF is welcome to take what is left.
