Parc Cefn Onn information

Parc Cefn Onn is a Country Park on the Northern fringes of Cardiff. It contains a magnificent collection of native and exotic trees set within an intimate valley. Visitors enjoy the stunning scenery and the calm, relaxing atmosphere.

The park was originally designed some 90 years ago taking advantage of the gentle valley containing the Nant Fawr stream. The streams, ponds, woodlands and other planting make this a rich haven for wildlife. The park is particularly impressive in the Spring when the Camelia and Rhododendron are in bloom and also in the Autumn when the Acers show a wide variety of colour.

There is an extensive network of streams and ponds throughout the woods which act as a habitat for frogs, toads and common newts to spawn in the spring. The biggest pond is artificial and created by damming the Nant Fawr stream. Eventually this stream runs into Roath Park Lake.

Rhododendrons Acers

This cache is only suitable for accessing during the daytime, as the park is only open during daylight hours. The park usually opens by 0730 and is locked approximately 30 minutes before the nationally published sunset time for Cardiff. Closing times for the park are published on the Cardiff County Council Website.

The cache is a medium lock 'n' lock box, inside a camouflage bag. At the time of placing, the cache contains a logbook and pen and various swap items such as LED torches, a fortune telling fish, flying saucer ballons, mini fibre tip pens, puzzle book and a miniature car. The cache difficulty rating reflects the poor GPS signal due to tree cover. It should be fairly easy, especially with the hint.

This cache has been placed with the kind permission of Cardiff County Council Parks Service.

This cache is in plain sight in a busy public park. Please be very careful and discrete when retrieving and hiding the cache.
