Geocache Description:

B. A. Steinhagen is one of our favorite lakes to fish but because of the reduced water level, we hadn't gotten to take the boat out on it for over a year. Repairs to the dam were finally completed in May 07 and refilling of the lake began on June 1st. The lake level was back to normal around the middle of the month so we came up today to cruise the lake and check things out. While we were up, we of course checked on our Jig is Up cache and found that it was in great shape, even though it hadn't been found since 2005. We decided to commemorate the day by setting out another cache on this beautiful lake.

As you can probably guess by the difficulty ratings above, this one does require some form of floating transportation to get to. Canoe, kayak, or inflatable would be right nice for getting to this one as it is less than a mile from shore and is a beautiful place to paddle. Not to worry if you don't happen to have your own as canoes can be rented from nearby Martin Dies Jr. SP, which by the way, is also where we recommend launching from. A regular boat with motor will do the trick but we'll tell you now that it is shallow around the island.

Be aware that there is plenty of wildlife in and around the lake. We saw a number of gators and even though we didn't spot any near the cache site today, figure they probably hang out there from time to time. Snakes, skeeters, and spiders are the ones to watch out for on the island so be sure to watch your step and where you put your hands.

The cache is a half gallon container and has, take a wild guess,,,,, fishing related items inside. Trade if you like, but the main thing is to sign the logbook while there and log your find here at GC.com.

That should just about cover it so we'll just end by saying that we hope that you have fun and enjoy this beautiful area. Oh, and Good Luck too!
