The Quick and Dirty
The cache you seek is a .30 cal. ammo can located in the
Colonel's Mountain Wildlife Management area in Palmer, MA.
The Longer Version
We've enjoyed hiking Colonel's Mountain for quite a few years,
and the Colonel's cache was the first cache we placed in back in
September 2003. After having had more than 40 visitors in the last
4 years (a pretty good run for a cache, considering the length of
the hike involved), we decided that we should show off a little
more of Colonels Mountain Wildlife Management Area.
There are two decent sized ponds in the WMA - and School Street
Brook runs from the pond here down to the Quaboag River back in
town. Are you in Warren or Palmer? Well, it depends on where you
are - the town line runs right through the middle of the pond! The
cache is located in West Warren, while the cache atop Colonel's
Mountain is located in Palmer.
This should be an easy walk! The walk to the cache is over 4WD
trails the entire way - if you're bushwhacking, you missed a turn!
The hike does cover some rocky terrain, but logs in a almost
exactly 1/2 mile from the parking area.
As when hiking up Colonel's Mountain in the summer, start your
trek going south out of the parking area on the trail, and the
double back going northwest, and then follow your geosense to the
cache.
As this area is frequented by non-cachers, please cover the
cache with the same care we took when placing it!
The Cache Proper
Cache container is a very colorful .30 cal. ammo can, and -
SURPRISE! - was decorated by Miss Alexa.
Contents include a FTF pin for the first finder, and a runner-up
gift for the second to find. Is gunning for the FTF a million
dollar error? Only the 2nd to find will be able to answer that
question...
We left an assortment of swag for the kids, and 3 travel bugs
including our newly minted *Will's Hotwheels Shuffle TB*, *Take
Along James* and the *America the Beautiful* GCC geocoin.
Enjoy!
