Geocache Description:

An Easy Stop And Go Roadside Cache

Like most Western towns and villages, the town of Rosetown grew out of the surrounding community. The decade 1901-1911 saw an amazingly quick transformation. Immigrants poured in from Eastern Canada,US,Great Britan, with lesser numbers from various European countries. West of Saskatoon settlers came down the "Old Bone Trail"and by late 1904 at least 3 had filed on homesteads within 11 miles of the current Rosetown. There were 3 chief means of entry into the district now known as Rosetown. One was the "Old Bone Trail" so called because it had been used in the past by the Indians and Metis to haul buffalo bones to Saskatoon. At a later date when it was used by the early settlers, one could still see bones which had dropped off by the wayside.Starting from Saskatoon the Old Bone Trail moved in a South Westerly direction, almost paralell to the present CNR line which passes thru Vanscoy,Delisle,Laura,Tessier,Harris,Zealandia and then on to Rosetown and beyond. For a couple of years the "End of the Rail was Zealandia before it pushed on thru Rosetown and eventually became the CNR Main line to Calgary. The 2nd route was westward from Hanley across the river at Rudy Ferry (just North Of Outlook)on towards the present site of Ardath(Where bennykidd's owners mom was born) and from there breaking up into not so well defined trails in westerly and southWesterly direcrtions.(bennykidd's owner's grandfather delivered the mail by horse and wagon over this trail for many years--personal insert) The 3rd route into Rosetown area was the Old Battleford Trail from Swift Current up to Fort Battleford. It passed just a little to the West of the present site of Rosetown. In the early years there was tremendous growth, sod houses sod barns and even a few frame buildings of very modest modes were built.Land was being broken by oxen and small fields ad crops were being planted. The hardships were many in the early days and only the tenacity and persistance of the early settlers gave life to a new era being built and today we see a thriving Rosetown and many other towns in Saskatchewan that came from the early settlers. We encorage you to take a short tour of Rosetown, see the Museam if it is open and tour the Old Eatons Catalouge House bought from an Eatons Catalouge of the day.
The above is taken from a Reflections of Rosetown Book of Mom's.
