The coordinates above will take you to Swanston Cottage, which was one of three stone buildings built by City of Edinburgh Town Council in 1761. The 'cottage' was given a second story, a slated roof and bow windows about 1835 and enlarged in 1867 for the Stevensons by an extension on the west side. It was further altered in 1908. RLS's father leased the house annually from the Edinburgh and District Water trust between May 1867 until May 1880. RLS enjoyed getting away, either alone or with his friends, to go hill-walking and to write during his university years and afterwards.
