Geocache Description:

Uneven terrain - not bad but bumpy. NOT inside the fence. Small mint tin - log only BYOP. Can hold small items like geocoins so feel free to place them here.

You knew it - you loved it – “The Buffalo Ranch”. Now defunct but memories still remain of days gone bye. Someone has carved a Native American Chief’s face into an old tree there. I have heard it was a tree taken out by "Hurricane Hugo" when it came through in 1989. I love to look at that face! Saw one similar in Estes Park Colorado one time.

Anyway, Mommy Shepardsfind used to come out to "The Buffalo Ranch" a LONG TIME ago and ride the Stage Coach rides through the herd of Buffalo. One summer when I was 13 on a trip to visit relatives out in South Dakota we rode through a giant herd of wild free range buffalo. Now THAT was a trippy feeling - they could mow you down in a heartbeat if they got spooked and decided to stampede. Our Nana (being a city gal) was scared you-know-whatless. But - I digress!
We also used to look at all the animals they had on display - Lions and Tigers and Bears (oh MY) and other assorted exotics. But of course - no trip was complete unless you went into the General Store to look at the Western Wear and try on hats, boots and Moccasins and check out the other items they had for sale.

I drive past it almost everyday on my way to work and my mind starts to wander back to those days. If you approach from the north you can still see the sign up on the hill. Those days may be gone but they are NOT forgotten - so go have a look at the Indian Face (sorry – that’s not PC - Native American Face) and revel at someone’s talent! It is beautiful to behold. Check out the big horn cattle too! Although, I swear, from the moment we placed the cache I haven't seen the cattle at all - hopefully they didn't get sent to the slaughterhouse? They are/were quite a site as well. If you are there in the evening you may hear the sweet song from nearby frogs and the gentle whisper of crickets.

While there - look for our cache. It's another cleverly disguised York Mint tin (Mommy loves those mints)!

The reason we’re calling it “The Beginning” is - we bought 36 (yes – 36) bison tubes off e-bay and this may be the start of another Concord numbers run? But for now we are going to start with the mint tin. Plus – Native Americans were the original occupants of America – so it seemed to fit together and because of my recent diagnosis of Breast Cancer (at time of placement) - One beginnning deserves another.

If it proves to be difficult – But I doubt you'll have a problem with this one - post a DNF and send an email – we’ll be happy to help.
Thanks for looking for our cache! Happy Caching!
