Geocache Description:

We love our town! Come take a stroll with us so we can share its charm with you. We'll start you out in the heart of downtown Plant City and lead you into the outskirts of the historic district. If you decide to walk, which we highly recommend, you'll go about 1/3 mile, one way. If you decide to drive, there is easy parking at each waypoint. This cache and its stages are family-friendly and wheelchair accessible.

If you arrive in the late afternoon on the first or third Saturday of the month, you can enjoy the sights, sounds and flavors of the motorcycle and vintage car shows, respectively. There are cafes and lunch spots just a few feet from the tracks where you can watch the trains roll by while you sip your drink.

Park by the published coordinates, and start your tour in downtown McCall Park, the hub of many community events in Plant City. At the listed coordinates, find the last name of a former United States President and note the number associated with that name. Next, find a common fruit. Note the two numbers associated with it. Add those three numbers together and add 183 to get a number in the form XXYY. Go to coordinates N28° 01.0XX, W082° 07.4YY.

As you start walking East through McCall Park, don't miss the recently restored State Theater and the Whistle Stop across the railroad tracks on the right. Turning North onto Collins, you'll pass numerous antique stores, cafes, an English tea room, a photograph archive (the latter two are new in 2007) and many buildings dating back to the early 1900's.

At your new coordinates, look to the name of this historic building for a hint to find the date it was built. Take the date that you find and add 2931 to it to get a number in the form XXYY. Go to coordinates N28° 01.1XX, W082° 07.3YY. Before you move on, look up to see the shiny new refurbishment to the top of this former home of the First Baptist Church.

Continue strolling North. You'll see the old Plant City High School, built in 1914, and now beautifully restored. It now serves as a railroad museum and home of the offices of the local historical society. When you find the cache, you'll have a great view of the current home of the First Baptist Church, which hosts a spectacular must-see Christmas show every year. You'll also be on the South edge of an historic residential district. If you have time, wander North to see some of these stately old homes.

Hope to see you around town!
