Welcome to GeoVenture 2007!

GeoVenture 2007 is a GeoCaching family weekend campout in beautiful Birds Hill Park hosted by the Manitoba GeoCaching Association along with an amazing cache challenge by mtolympus. The event weekend runs from Friday, September 7 until Sunday, September 9 and takes place in Group Use Area #1, Site #5. The optional Cache Challenge will happen Saturday followed by a potluck BBQ with the MBGA providing the hamburgers and hotdogs. Come out for the whole weekend, take part in the caching or just come out for the supper and bonfire - whatever fits your schedule. All GeoCachers are welcome to come join in!

Be sure to add this event to your watchlist as more details will be added as the event gets closer. Also, to help us plan, post a note if you plan on attending along with the number in your party and whether you'll be camping. If you're planning on coming to the potluck BBQ, please list what food item you'll be bringing.

Cache Challenge - "Capital Punishment"

In the heart of Birds Hill Park lies a treasure worth searching for. Only thirteen stages stand between you and eternal glory. Come explore the park and race in the greatest Geocaching Adventure! Puzzles, clues, hints, and fierce competition - get it all here on September 8, 2007!

Cache Description

  • 14 stage multi-cache
  • 20 possible start points
  • Puzzles at each location
  • Estimated time to finish for first place: 6 hours
  • Use of bikes and/or cars is allowed, and recommended
  • Be prepared to bush-whack for several of the locations, and walk reasonably long distances
  • Caches will not be difficult to find, if you have the right co-ordinates
  • All 14 locations must be found to complete the event
  • Bring along your own writing device and paper
  • More details will be provided at event registration

Friday 11:00 AM Check-in time. Campers may setup after 11:00 AM.
10:00 PM Group cache outing to Heart Halting Horror (note: time has changed)
Saturday 8:00 AM The GeoVenture 2007 "Capital Punishment" Cache Challenge starts!
10:00 AM Group Caching #1: Medium and long hikes - North side
10:00 AM Group Caching #3: Short and medium walks - West side
2:00 PM Group Caching #2: Short and medium walks - East side
2:00 PM Group Caching #4: Short and medium walks - South side
6:00 PM Potluck BBQ - Hotdogs and Hamburgers provided by the MBGA
8:00 PM Cache Challenge Awards Ceremony followed by storytelling and a bonfire - BYO lawn chair
Sunday 10:00 AM CITO Group Site: We'll leave it better than we found it!
11:00 AM Group Caching: Open to any caches
11:00 PM Check-out time. The Group Use area is available for our use until 11:00 PM

Birds Hill Park

Located along PTH 59 approximately 24 km (15 mi) north of Winnipeg.

As well as the thirty caches currently hidden in the park (see the bookmark list on this event page for BHP caches) you can enjoy the park's many features:

  • White sand beach
  • Horseback riding
  • Rollerblading
  • Biking
  • Hiking trails

The group use area has plenty of room so feel free to bring your Frisbee, kite, bocce balls, baseball and mitt - whatever you enjoy.

Camping

The Group Use area includes a picnic shelter with running water, electricity and wood fired grills.

The MBGA will collect $13 per night in camping fees from campers.

If you plan on camping, please post here so we'll have an idea of how many campers to plan for.

The group use site only accommodates tents, but campers are welcome to park in the Site-5B Parking Area. There are no facilities for hookup in the parking area. However, there are electrical and full service sites nearby at the very nice Birds Hill Park Provincial Campground that can be reserved by calling 1-888-482-2267.

Once you arrive,  please check in at the GeoVenture 2007 registration (the coordinates above) at the group camping site shelter Friday evening or Saturday morning.

Park Use Fees

A Provincial Park vehicle entry permit is required

  • Annual Park Vehicle Permit: $24.75
  • Casual Park Vehicle Permit: (3 day) $5.95
  • Group Use Camping: $13 per night
