Geocache Description:

Although this cache refers to an Eagle, in reality the bird that has landed is an Osprey. Often confused with an Eagle because of its white head, the Osprey migrate here each year. Other Raptor viewing sites will follow this one, which is only one of about 16 man made platforms, specially built by the local electric co-op for the annual arrival of the Osprey flock here in the Chama Valley. Each year aproximately 17 pair of birds return, many to the same nests as the previous year. When the Osprey migrate from the valley, Bald Eagles move in to the area and may also find shelter in the same nests, so depending on the time of year, you should see one or the other of these remarkable raptors.
To get to this cache, you will need day pass for the state park, but the park office is near the park entrance and only about 1/2 mile from the coordinates. This cache is a small tupperware placed just off the road, yet close enough to a nest that cachers will enjoy a great view and the callings of the Osprey. Please respect the privacy of this wonderful bird and approach no closer to the nest than nesessary to find the cache.
