Geocache Description:

A simple cache to commemorate the Nuevo Chiricahuan Campout.

On 29 June 2007 three geocaching teams from the Chiricahua DGP area (Team Loki, C&K Desert Dwellers and Scrawlinn) descended on Pena Blanca Lake in order to participate in the Atascosa Memories (GC1343X) event hosted by Shadow Ace. We completely occupied an entire camping area, and before we knew it our camp of 8 people grew to 18 with the additional people coming from Team PK, Shadow Ace, Swimfin and Noshdoo Tsoh.

The “hill” above the camping area had been screaming for a cache from the moment we pulled in. So after the event, in which we hiked 6 miles round trip to the top of the second tallest peak in the area in 112 degree heat, Loki and son scampered up this monstrosity and placed this cache.

The hike will be short, but difficult. You'll start on loose dirt/rocks then run into nearly vertical rock formations, but don’t worry. If we found a way, so will you. Be mindful of the typical desert hazards including snakes and scorpions, and the physics hazards, like gravity.

We made this hike at night and rated it a 4 for terrain, but you may rate it differently when you do it during the day. Please include in your log what you think it should be rated as.
