Geocache Description:

One of Nova Scotia's new sources of energy. Three turbines located on Higgins Mountain, each generating 1.2 MegaWatts of power. The cache is named after the first turbine on the way in, which in turn was given it's name by the students of Wentworth Elementary School.

To get to this cache, head up the Collingwood Road, then take the Valley Road, and finally turn up the Higgins Mountain Road. When the cache was placed, the road was easily navigable in pretty much any vehicle, but I can't guarantee it's condition in the spring of the year. The cache is a small lock & lock located near the "Big Wind" turbine.

I must say, I was one of the biggest sceptics of wind power before my trip to place this cache. I had heard how noisy they were, how they killed birds at an alarming rate, and how they were not much of a dependable power source. My trip here changed my view. The turbines, while not totally silent, are pretty darn quiet. I searched around and didn't find a single dead bird. And, with only a slight breeze blowing, the turbines were turning at their regular speed. Producing quiet, zero emission energy with very low operating costs. Neat!
