Geocache Description:

This spot was the stop on the stage line, between the towns of Bonham and McKinney, in Texas. It is said that the folks who lived there were so poor that they had to "lick the skillet", hence the name.

Log and container replaced on 4/17/21. We added a couple of our signature pins again, for your finding! Enjoy! Another cacher has a great series of caches in the area, which document the "Murder at the Corners" legend. Be sure to hunt for those, while you are here! So far as this one, it is more to tell the story of the folks who struggled to keep LickSkillet alive. They had it rough. Before AND after the Civil war. The land we live on is where the outpost stood and is now called Pilot Grove. It is a land full of legends of gunfights, murders and buried treasure (we hear most everyone in the area has dug or fished to try to find the "Corners Treasure" at one time or another!). You will find the historical marker that commemorates the LickSkillet Outpost and nearby, you will find the cache. We have started it out with a few trinkets, a few of our personal Couples Series pins and a few of our ManVsWoman geocoins. ***Do BYOP, though!*** You will be near private land, but still on public property and you may even see folks out and about.... they know exactly what you are up to and they enjoy the game, too... so go for it! You might even meet the pups, who also know exactly what you are up to! LOL! There is parking just off the road (where you will see the historical marker). This is almost a park and grab! Enjoy the hunt and the story! Scott and Linda
