The Island

Sa Dragonera (Dragon-Island) is an uninhabited island right in front of the mid-west coast of Majorca. The 800m wide Canal de Freu flow separates the island from the quit village San Telmo (Sant Elm), therefore it can only be reached by boat.

Dragonera is approximately 3,200 mts in length, 1100 m wide and on its peak Piko Popi of a height of 360 m you will find the ancient lighthouse Na Popi (Far Vell). its name steems from the view on the island from San Telmo: The shape of a lying dragon (see picture on German edition of Wikipedia)!

Due to a hidden large fresh water cave (subterranean lake, 40m below sea level), Dragonera was used by pirates for hundreds of years as a base and place of refuge and it is said that Barbarossa has been there.

Nowadays Dragonera is a natural protection area, which you can explore by yourself, but you must not leave the paths, not disturb any animals (like the endemic Dragonera Lizard, see picture) or leave any trash behind.

The Quest

Stage 1: Snorkeling in Sant Elm

The cache itself is in the very south-west of the island Dragonera, but your search starts at this position in San Telmo:

N 39° 34.963, E 002° 20.925

Once you get there, take out your scuba diving mask (can be borrowed for a few Euros at the nearby diving school Scuba Activa, they speak German, English and Spanish). Now start searching the underwater station indicated by the photo to the right, it is about 10m from the starting point in about 2,50m depth. Embedded into the concrete you'll identify a plastic bucket, try to find out its color - that's all!

If the colour is Coords are
Yellow N 39° 34.675, E 002° 18.991
Red N 39° 35.405, E 002° 19.900
Blue N 39° 34.488', E 002° 18.269
White N 39° 34.530, E 002° 18.810
Green N 39° 34.660, E 002° 18.470

Stage 2 (Final): Dragonera

Have a drink at Sant Elmo harbour and wait for the next boat trip.
Please pay attention to the boat trip schedules (see this link), in the main season (March - November) the boat Margarita leaves every day (except Mondays and Fridays!). You should take one of the earlier ferries, due to the long hike at the island! There are also other options to get a boat trip (Watertaxi, information at Restaurante El Pescador).
After arrival on Dragonera, take a hike on the official paths and calculate enough time (for example, hiking to the top takes about one hour one way). The box is very close to the path.
