The Hike

The cache is hidden on a high mesa northeast of Doña Ana Peak. There is no trail.

I rated the cache a 4, but it probably can be done as a 3.5 if you choose your route carefully. I didn't, and managed to turn it into a 4.75. Once you're on top of the Mesa, you'll find that the cache is hidden in a fairly easy area to access. No rock scrambling is required. Once you've logged the find, take some time to look around. There is a nice camping (or living) area at the east end of the mesa, ready for a tarp. Another close by spot even comes with a rake to keep things clean. The high point of the mesa at the west end is also a neat place, but some rock scrambling is needed to get to the top.

Watch out for loose rocks and snakes.

To get to a parking spot

Take Jornada Range Road north until you get to the turn at the waypoint below, then head west. Park at the cache coordinates (4x4 vehicles may want to find parking closer to their desired starting point).

This is also a great area for mountain bikes with many trails and roads to choose from.
