Geocache Description:

This cache is a cammo ammo with a few goodies hidden along the the Camp Branch Trail in the Breaks Interstate Park.

The trail head is accessible by the Garden Hole Rd., a gated, narrow gravel park road just off St. Rt. 80. The gate is open from 8:00 A M till 7:00 P M in summer and till 6:00 P M in the winter. This road has minimal traffic most times and is maintained for car traffic. However, it is quite busy on the week-ends in October because of the controled water releases on the river for the popular class 4, 5, and 6 rapids for rafting and kayaking. Do not attempt the road in snow or after heavy storms. The Garden Hole Road ends at the river where there is plenty of parking and a turnaround, but Camp Branch Trail head is located across the road from one of the first wide spots on the road. There is a trail sign on the right. The trail gives an easy access to the gorge and the cache is along the easy part of the trail which is considered a moderate hike because of the steep decline nearer the river. The trail follows an old road bed to the former location of a steam furnace used to make steam to operate tools needed to help make the Tower Tunnel in the late 1900's.
Heavy tree cover may affect your readings but the cache is easy to find without leaving the trail. If you should continue to the river and wish to fish you must have a Virginia fishing license and a trout stamp. These are available at the Park Visitor Center.
