Geocache Description:

Cache contains small log and pencel. Careful not to drop in the river.

Two brothers John and George Hunsucker settled at Rubicon Springs in the summer of 1860, built a log cabin in the meadow south of the springs where the caretaker cabin is located today. They were the first to build a bridge using wood planks across the river in the late 1860's.
A flash flood in 1908 brought the river up 8 feet and took out the bridge and carried it down stream.
In 1939, El Dorado County built a wooden bridge hoping that one day the trail might become a thoroughfare from the Georgetown Divide to Lake Tahoe.
The County later built a more permanent steel bridge after World War II with hopes that a highway would be built through this wilderness. The completion of US 50 ultimately made this trail non county maintained exposing the road to the elements therefore opening up a wonderful 4WD trail.
The bridge was reconditioned with concrete and paint by a group a dedicated 4-Wheelers lead by Louie Hicks and his jeep club Sacramento Jeepers in 1997.
It spans 51 feet and is 10 feet wide, safely aiding hundreds of off road vehicles on the journey to Lake Tahoe.
