Welcome to Academe!! This five-leg multi-cache gives you a free tour of my Alma Mater, The University at Buffalo... North Campus. You have alot of options to get to the various legs of this cache, all of which are contained in the boundaries of the University grounds. You can walk, bike or take a car to the general areas of all the legs. Plenty of parking is available at all sites.
The cache should take between one and two hours, but feel free to hang out and enjoy the great college atmosphere. We are glad you elected to attend the University at Buffalo to receive your Geocaching Degree. Now you may remember that this campus was once voted as one of the ugliest campuses in the United States.... but... you might not have seen it lately. The campus is looking great, the academics are top notch and there is a whole bunch of stuff to do in and around the campus.
Now, to receive your degree, you must successfully attend and receive a passing grade(coordinates for the next class) in several areas of study. Let's begin....
Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning 101:
At picturesque Baird Point you will overlook beautiful Lake Lasalle. Check out the cool history of this great spot at (visit link)
You must receive a passing grade(find the coords) in this class before moving on to:
Western New York History 305:
This Bronze Buffalo was cast from a mold of the original majestic statue that once stood in Buffalo's Historic Central Railway Terminal.
To pass this class, you must complete the following homework assignments:
a) The bull was dedicated in honor of an important University milestone on August 30th, 1997. How many letters are in the word that describe that milestone?
b) In what year in the 1900's did U.B. change Janet Stadler's life?
Your next class meets shortly @ N43 00.0XX, W78 YY.153
where: XX = (B+15) and YY = (A*3)-1
Sociology 200:
You are now standing in front of one of the newer buildings at the North Campus. As you see all of these students scrambling around eating, joking and generally goofing off during their brief time between classes and studying, realize that they are the leaders of tomorrow.... I think(hope) we will be OK.
- To pass this class, find the HUGE seal in this general area and record the 4 digit year that has historical significance to this fine institution.
A = 2nd digit minus the 1st digit
B = the third digit
C = the last digit
D = the last digit minus the 1st digit
Your next class meets shortly @ NB3 00.2AB, W78 BC.CD3
Physical Education 101:
Hey, you know... all work and no play.....
This area has been used in the past to allow incoming freshmen to have some fun and get to know the other newbies. The athletic facilities at U.B. are FANTASTIC. Hopefully, U.B. will make big strides this year in their continuing quest for NCAA Division 1 Football glory. GO BULLS!!!
A)To pass this course, record the number of metal objects in the immediate area (the ones that look like they belong in Paul Bunyan's Croquet Set).
X = (Square Root of (A))-2
Y = 2nd Digit of (A)
Your Final class meets shortly @ N43 00.3X0, W78 46.90Y
Outdoor Awareness 400:
Graduation Time!!!
Enough of that asphalt for a while. This short but pretty hike will lead you to your diploma!!!
Well done... now let's discuss that tuition that you owe.....
The final is a small tupperware container with log book and a few goodies (A couple of Tim Horton Bucks for the FTF). Please tread lightly...
Hope you enjoyed the cache!!!
