This cache has been archived.

Prime Reviewer: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Cache is NOT at the posted coordinates...the dog show is!

Formerly known as the Astro World Series of Dog Shows, the Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows (http://www.reliantdogshows.com/) has been an annual Houston tradition for over 30 years. Across its four-day span, the show attracts more than 40,000 spectators and participants and 14,000 entries. In 2010, it will take place at Reliant Hall on July 22 through July 25. Dogs of all shapes and sizes will compete in obedience, agility, flyball and CONFORMATION. What is conformation? It is the part of the dog show that you see on tv…basically a beauty pagent which confirms that an individual dog “fits ideally to the standard”. In other words, poodles should look like poodles, bulldogs like bulldogs and so on. Dog shows are a process of elimination - you start the day with hundreds of dogs and breeds. Individual dogs are eliminated through breed judging, seven different group judging. Finally the last seven dogs enter the final round to compete for Best In Show (BIS). While BIS is the ultimate goal of every competitor, most dogs are simply competing for points toward their American Kennel Club (AKC) championship. To find this cache, you must learn to tabulate AKC Dog Show Points. The calculation and tracking of these point totals has baffled my wife since 1985 when we showed our first dog. The first few finders (FTF, 2TF, etc.) will receive special recognition just like dog show contestants. Ladies and Gentlemen, may the Best Dog Win!!!
