Adams Elementary School, located at the intersection of Adams
Drive with Washington St. toward the northeast corner of Midland,
was built in 1962, and was named for our second US president, John
Adams. Their pep name is Adams Atoms. We were fortunate to have all
three of our children attend there. North of the Adams athletic
field is a very nice woodland area, interlaced with numerous
trails. A few of the trails are lined with poison ivy, and a few
others are lined with blackberries, so choosing your route is
advisable. You can get to the cache without having to deal with
either of these. In the spring, there are many wildflowers in the
woods, and in the fall, many fall mushrooms, some of which are
edible. Bicycles are permitted on the trails, but not motorized
vehicles.
To the southeast of the school building is a smaller kids
(K-2nd) playground, and to the northeast, another playground for
upper-elementary aged kids (3rd-5th).
When school is in session, please park near the woodland park
entrances, WACC (closer) or NACC (more scenic) rather than going
near the school.
The cache, a camouflaged 16-ounce plastic bottle, is fairly well
hidden near a fallen tree. It has little room for goodies, and
mostly has the log book, a couple of pencils, one puzzle toy, and
some insect repellent. Most days, there are children playing in
various portions of the woods, so some discretion is recommended.
Don't be surprised if a couple of smart-mouthed red squirrels
decide to swear at you for invading their turf.
