Geocache Description:

THE AMAZING RACE!

Welcome to The Amazing Race – Lenoir County, NC (T.A.R. – L)!  This is a series of geocaches that is roughly based on the CBS Television program, “The Amazing Race”.  On the show, teams race around the globe solving puzzles and performing tasks in order to get to the final finish line. At each leg of the race, the last team to arrive is eliminated from the race. In this version, teams will race around parts of Lenoir County in an effort to gather clues which will lead you to the final elimination station.

RULES OF THE RACE:

1. At the starting line, you will find your passport.  Please only take one per team.  Your passport is your guide to the race and will help you gather clues and remain on the trail.  It will also give you additional hints which are not found on the web site.

2. Each leg of the race is set up as a separate geocache. Therefore, each leg contains its own log and will count as a separate find. However, you must complete all legs of the race in order to get to the finish line.

3. There are two detours in the race (see detour below). At each detour, you are given a choice of whether to go after the closer cache, which is harder to find, or go after the easier cache, which will take you out of your way and may cause you to backtrack. The choice is up to you. Both of the caches contain the same clue, so you only need to go after one of the detours. Remember, this is a race and time is important.

4. This series is designed for daylight caching only.

DETOUR

A Detour is a choice between two tasks, each with its own pros and cons. Teams must weigh the options and choose between two destinations.  If you make the wrong choice, it will add a considerable amount of time and often lead to back tracking.

ROUTE MAP

For the convenience of the cachers who are not familiar with the back roads of Lenoir County, I have created an interactive google map to help you trace out your routes as you travel from cache to cache on the different legs of the race. Click on the image of the map, or click here .

SPECIAL NOTES:

  1. Although you do not necessarily have to do all of the geocaches in order,  it adds an excitement and spirit to the game, and will help you from doing to much back tracking.
  2. While this is a race, I expect everyone to be safe and abide all laws (including speed limits)
  3. This race is intended to take you around areas of Lenoir County. While I stayed on Highways as much as possible, there are several back roads in the race which connect highways.
  4. Each leg of the race will have a section on the web site called "Route Info". This area is used to note anything special about that particular geocache.
  5. Except for the detours, all of the cache in the race are meant to be easily found (level 2 and under). This is to keep the race moving quickly and smooth.
  6. You will need to gather clues from each leg of the race in order to discover the location of the elimination station (the finish line)

NOTES CONCERNING THIS LEG OF THE RACE: LEG #1

  1. Do not block any driveways while retrieving the cache.
  2. There is a small ditch you have to cross at this leg of the race. Located near the area is a pile of stones which can be used to cross any water that may be standing in the ditch.
  3. This cache is rated at a three terrain due to the ditch. However, it is not a difficult area.
  4. This cache contains your "passport". Please take only one per team. If the number of passports gets low, please email me so I can place more in the cache.
  5. In your LOGS below, please record your start time
