Geocache Description:

FTF Goes To TeamRedSpring

WELCOME TO A FINE EXAMPLE OF A ROCK HOUSE

Some people may call this a cave but it is not. Both caves and rock houses are formed by water but rock houses are formed in a different way.

The coordinates above will take you to this cool geologic feature you see below.

Rock Houses are formed in sedimentary rock when water leaks through the horizontal joints running parallel to the cliff face. In the cold months this water freezes and expands. As the water expands, it pushes the layers of rock apart. That’s why if you look in the rock house, the rocks you see laying on the ground are in almost perfect geometric shapes.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND GOING BACK IN THE ROCK HOUSE AS IT DOES NOT LOOK VERY SAFE TO ME! Please use your best judgment.

To get credit for this Earthcache you must email me the answers to the following questions:

(1) Take a picture of yourself and/or your group with GPS at the opening of the rock house.

(2) Estimate the height and width of the opening

(3) Estimate the depth of the rock house

This cache can't be done at night unless I can clearly see you in the picture. Please don't post your answers in your log.

Any "FOUND IT" log without your picture and without the correct answers emailed to me will be DELETED. Thanks and HAPPY CACHING!
