Parking is usually available half way up the east side of the wood (take the road signposted to "Gagi") and stop at the bend where there is an access gate. Enter and walk south.
This small lock and lock cache container can only hold a few small items.
You may need to search for a while as GPS signal is a bit erratic near the trees. The clue should help you out though.
After finding the cache, do go and enjoy being in the wood. It is really worth a visit.
Brighty Wood appears as woodland on maps from as far back as 1865.
Nowadays, the wood is quite diverse in structure and age. The southern two thirds of the wood consists of a mature block of beech and downy birch with scattered mature conifers. The northern end of the wood is much younger and consists of semi-mature conifers and mixed broadleaved underplanting.
The dead wood habitat has been improved by leaving standing dead trees and leaving timber felled from power line clearance work.
There is a noisy rookery here, and many other bird species use the attractive mixed woodland too eg Buzzards, long-tailed tits, warblers and woodpeckers. Red squirrels were last reported in 2002, but none have been seen recently.
