Duelling Dopes Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

CoyoteTrust: Thanks "Flavor Daddy" for the offer, but I picked up the cache at about 1615 hours today. I left the cannons where they stand. Dave & Mort say 'thank you' to all the visitors.

FYI: The second cannon - 'Dave's Cannon' -- is located at the Wm R. Edmonson American Legion Honor Court (at the intersection of Archer Avenue & Wilow Springs Road in Willow Springs); there is no need to go there now. I won't bother to tell ya the cache projectile collision point, but it happened over some dude's house in Willow Springs, unbeknownst to him.

Buffalo Woods is a small but interesting tract of land. I tried to pick a spot that was very steep and a bit of a challenge, but it ain't bad at all really. For some time this was the only cache in Buffalo Woods and I was waiting to see if/when others would start hiding caches there. And now I open it up further to the likes of cachers "JonesPosse" and "Flavor Daddy". Dave and Mort appreciated all the visitors. Stay safe.

Geocache Description:

THIS CACHE WILL BE ARCHIVED ON OR BEFORE NOVEMBER 21ST 2008. See log from Nov 16 2008 below. This story is fictional. Any living person bearing any resemblance to the characters involved should be repeatedly smacked with the stupidity stick. Final cache is a black tupperware with a blue lid. Now assume a pleasant story-telling voice.

Ha-ha-ha-ha! Hello, boys and girls! Let me tell you a story about two dopes named Dave and Mort! Dave and Mort were friends, but there always existed a friendly rivalry. Since their days of racing each other in running races and all the way up to the present day, these two fellows were always scheming on how to out-do or befuddle the other. Oftentimes, the scheme resulted in the swiping of Dave’s glasses or the dislodging of Mort’s enormous front teeth. Ha ha! Surely, these sound like the antics of two enemies, but nay, these were just two friends.

One day, Dave and Mort met up. Here’s what happened:

Errr, a-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Good ol’ Dave and Mort! Well, this IS a fictional story, after all, so Mort grew a new set of front teeth, and Dave simply reached behind his back and pulled out another set of glasses to wear. Then both of these friendly dopes made their way to their cache cannons.

At the listed coordinates, Mort set up his cache cannon, took aim, and readied to fire off his new cache. Yet he couldn’t help but wonder, where is Dave’s cache cannon, and where exactly would he shoot it? “I’ll a-just hope fer the best!” he said.

To find Dave’s cache cannon:
(1) Find the four digit year stamped on Mort’s cache cannon
(2) Place a decimal after the first number (i.e.: y.yyy)
(3) SUBTRACT that number from these coordinates: N41 45.818 / W087 54.559

At Dave’s cache cannon:
Dave took aim and said “Huh! I’ll be ‘Shooting for Buffalo’!” He then fired off his new cache. NOW what happened?

(1) Find a four digit number stamped on Dave’s cache cannon
(2) Place a decimal after the first number (i.e.: x.xxx)
(3) ADD this number to these coordinates: N41 41.012 / W087 48.583

Well how about that, boys and girls – the coordinates you just figured out is exactly where Dave’s and Mort’s caches collided in the air! And, my-my, it was a sight! But you won’t find anything at those coordinates; you see it was a very breezy day, and the debris from the collided caches happened to drift overhead for exactly .78 miles at a bearing of 93 degrees true! As the debris fell to earth, it took out a few trees, but landed perfectly nestled in a nice spot for you to enjoy! Now I'D say they BOTH won the contest! Ha ha ha ha ha! Isn’t that sweet?

[The general locale of the final is why Dave wanted to use that cache name]
