The community of Panther, IA was located at this spot. A blacksmith
shop, a tin shop, and a general store stood there at one time. As
Panther grew, more stores were added to serve the area. Panther
once served a vast area of the Iowa farmland, thus the general
store sold a wide variety of items. People also found the place to
socialize, usually on Saturday nights. The construction of Highway
44 brought more change to Panther. Eventually, as most small towns
did in that era, the town slowly faded into history and vanished
from the roadside. All that remains is this area, dedicated to its
memory.
A quick little two part multi-cache. Come on out and see this area
of the countryside and learn some little known history of Iowa.
