Off an unnamed side road departing from the west side of West Side Road. West Side Road is well maintained but can be muddy and slippery when it rains, as I found out the day I placed this cache. Four wheel drive not required for this cache, but if you venture beyond the Long Ridge turn off when the road is wet it becomes a necessity.
West Side Road, also known as FSR 90, runs between High Rolls and Timberon. It is above the escarpment but well below the ridge line of the Sacramento Mountains. Most trails off this road either tie in with the Rim Trail to the east or run down into the Tularosa Basin to the west. As a result they are usually very steep. This cache is not placed on such a trail. It is on a side road that runs approximately 2/10 mile and ends at a not too impressive overlook of the Tularosa Basin. The 30 cal ammo can is hidden near the end of the road. Contains logbook, pen, trade goods.
