Geocache Description:

Location:

A walk along the Cress Creek nature trail in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada

Description:

This is a 2 part multi-cache.

The first stage of the cache is a small container hidden at the posted coordinates.

This holds a clue that will guide you on a short walk along Cress Creek and will lead you to the second stage – a one liter sized plastic container which holds the log book and goodies.

Cress Creek drains into Shuswap Lake a short distance away.  You will walk along a quiet, flat trail that is suitable for all ages while looking for this hide.  Along the way you see a variety of birdlife which changes with the seasons.  Be sure to note the cedar trees filled with woodpecker holes.  If you are lucky you might see the large red-headed, pileated woodpecker who frequents the area.  In the winter many ducks and the occasional heron shelter from the winter winds in the creek which runs along a forested natural draw of birch and cedars.  Black bear and deer have been seen in the area. The nearby residential, sub-divisions seem far away from this very peaceful walk.  Where the trail crosses the creek there is a bridge where you should stop for a moment to enjoy the forest of older and larger cedars.  At this point in the trail the cedars have a very dense canopy and little grows in the dark shade on the forest floor.  In the summer it is always cool here and is a nice place to get away from the heat.

Good parking is available at: N50 43.051 W119 15.746 which is near the corner of Lakeshore Rd. NE and 24th Ave. NE in Salmon Arm.  From this point go east along the trail to the first stage of the cache which a just a minute or two away

UPDATE: Aug 4 2021

This cache has been "muggled" 3 times since it was first placed. I never thought it was a busy place; maybe it was just too easy to find. This cache is now back in action again after being moved to a slightly different final location. A keen eye is now required.
