Geocache Description:

Near the highest point of Rise Hill.

Although the height of the cache is only just over 1800 feet, this is a route for fell-walkers or those who can cope with rough wet ground. Rise Hill has been described as a giant layer cake having about a dozen layers of limestone of various ages, sandwiched between layers of sandstone and shale, and iced with a varying thickness of peat which remains wet even in a drought. The cache is near the cairn on the Garsdale side, towards the highest point. Easiest access is from Dent Foot or Longstone Fell on the A684, but the terrain is not easy walking and can be very wet after rain. An alternative is to combine the cache with Lonesome Pine, (GC124FG) one and a quarter miles away, and walk from the “Occupation Road”, a bridleway which runs over Rise Hill from Cowgill Church to Dandra Garth – Please do not try to drive on this track.
When first placed the cache contained a copper kettle (miniature, no lid), computer memory chips, red cube candle, Geospoon ™, wheeled turtle, Father Christmas soap, plastic spinning top, key to the door (but whose?), Cumbria badge, pen and Geopenny ™, in a 1.2 litre plastic box. Because of the very high rainfall here (100 inches per year) please seal carefully and replace the plastic bag round the box before re-hiding.
