Geocache Description:

An easy stroll or bike ride along the C-470 bike path. I did it with my stroller, just watch the kiddos from the bikers flying by. PLEASE, DO NOT PARK ON C-470.

Well it looks like someone took the Dutch Oreos away, but I am leaving it up to remember my favorite cows! YOu will have to look at the photo instead.

Have you been driving in the area of C-470 between Belleview & Bowles and had to take a double take, "Did I just see striped cows"? Most often I hear "Have you seen those OREO COOKIE COWS on C-470?" Is it a genetic experiment gone whacky, a promotion for a popular cookie, some strange breeding practice, hmmm?

I know the first time I saw them in Holland I called my Dad (a Dutch dairy farmer) so excited I had seen a new breed of cow. He was not nearly as excited as I was, when he told me they are called "DUTCH BELTED" cows. They are my favorite cows, they make me smile when ever I see them. I really wanted to highlight them with a cache nearby. Just look across C-470 and hopefully the heard will be grazing nearby.

They were originally sought after in the 1700's by Dutch Nobility and admired for their striking and peculiar appearance. They are primarily known as milking cows and Flourished in Holland Around 1750. Originally brought to North America in 1840 by P.T. Barnum and shown in his traveling cattle exhibit with the Circus. If you want to learn more about them here's a couple of websites I found: (visit link) (visit link)

The cache is full of cow items at the moment, but I don't expect the herd to stick around. Non cows are welcome in the cache barn.
