Step off the main trail to the reservoir and overlook, and come
with me into Charmlee Cathedral. You may find it quietly stunning,
spiritual, or just relaxing -- all will be right.
I had wandered around Charmlee Park several times before I went
a little farther from the main trail and found this spot. My first
reaction was "cathedral", reinforced by offerings which someone had
left on the apparent altar. Never figured out the offerings but I
knew I wanted to share the spot.
On a hot day, or if life has been moving too fast, this may be
the best spot in the park. Sit in the shade of the oaks (the
"encino" after which the canyon is named), on or under the
rocks.
The best route to the cache is via the nave of Charmlee
Cathedral. In fact, you'll see the altar at the waypoint given.
Some rocks just across the small field by the cathedral are eroded
in fantastical shapes reminiscent of gargoyles.
Parking is $4 in Charmlee Park. For more park information check
