Geocache Description:

Very small plastic lunchbox near the port of Fenit, Co. Kerry.

Fenit ("An Fhianait" in Irish, meaning "The Wild Place") is the sea port for the county of Kerry.

Ships of up to 17,000 tonnes regularly dock in the port, including those of the Liebherr crane company, based in Killarney. During deliveries, the Liebherr trucks bring traffic to a standstill as their newly-assembled cranes make the 40km journey to Fenit to be exported all over the world. Quite a sight!

Fenit is also popular for fishing (though, in all my years, I have never actually seen anyone catch a fish!) and sailing, with a 130 berth marina operated by Tralee Bay Sailing Club.

Fenit village is located about 10km from Tralee. Follow the signs for the R551 and turn onto the R558 at the first roundabout out of Tralee town.

The cache is located near the port and marine, which is across a 600m viaduct. If driving, watch out for all the anglers and make sure not to run over any fishing rods on the way!

The cache is a VERY small lunchbox, containing a logbook and a few trinkets. There are numerous places it could be, but the hint below should help a lot.

While in the area, check out the statue of St. Brendan (N52º 16.155' W9º 51.817') and the nearby Ogham Stones.
