Brantingham is a small attractive village lying just north of the busy A63. People have been living here for 4000 years, though today’s village dates mainly from the 18th Century.
This multi-cache takes you past some of the most interesting and attractive parts of the village. It involves about 1.0 mile (1.6 km) of easy walking and should take less than 1 hour.
The co-ordinates posted above are for the car park at the Village Hall. You could also park at the Triton Inn (if you go for their good food and beer) at N53°45.118' W0°34.567'. To find the cache you’ll need to visit the 4 locations below.
Location 1 - N53°45.132' W0°34.534' - The Post Office
To the right of the former Post Office is a Private Farm Road. What is the speed limit on this road? It is Speed A5mph.
Location 2 - N53°45.228' W0°34.511' - The History of Brantingham.
Lots to read on this board that details the history of the village. But what you’re looking for is Mr Christopher Sykes (1BC1 – 1B9B). To the left of the board is a traditional K6 British telephone box. These were produced from the 1930s to the 1960s and are usually painted red, but in the Hull area (which has a different telephone company) they are painted cream.
From here you can also see the village pond with its resident ducks. Despite the name of this cache they’re not dangerous, but will enjoy any sandwiches you offer them.
Location 3 - N53°45.273' W0°34.388' - The Village Pump.
This water pump dates from the 19th Century. If you listen at the window under the pump you can hear the water flowing into the well from the chalk hills of the Yorkshire Wolds. What you need to find here is the lamppost next to the pump with the number D.
Important – it is possible to reach Location 4 by climbing the hill (Spout Hill), but it is easier to take the road to the left (Dale Road).
Location 4 - N53°45.505' W0°34.209' – All Saints Church.
We think that this is a beautiful location for a church, here at the foot of Brantingham Dale. All Saints dates from the 12th Century but is now mainly 19th Century. Naturally as we have taken you to a church yard you need to find a gravestone! No surprise there. It should be easy to find and there’s no need to leave the path. The grave you need is that of Isabella, wife of the late David Dale. Isabella died on Jan. E9th 19FF, Aged G5Years. Thanks, Isabella.
You now have all the numbers you need to complete your task. The final location is only a short distance away. Please note it is not hidden within the church yard.
