Geocache Description:

Slap on your hiking boots and bring you sense of adventure! Come out to the GR8GPN Dry Creek Trail Hiking Event

The Dry Creek High Adventure Hiking Group

The "Wild America" Crew

Both photos by CoolCache

I have some geo-friends flying in from New York and Colorado just to make this hike.

Trail Preview: "The trail alternates between pines and aspens as it climbs to a large meadow sitting at the base of Box Elder Peak. In the early summer, the meadow teems with wildflowers. The trail becomes less distinct in the meadow.
The Dry Creek Trail makes a sharp left in the middle of the meadow, while the Box Elder Trail continues across the meadow to the southeast. Turn left and follow the trail through aspens and up a ridge, reaching the 9000-foot level. When you top the ridge, a large alpine basin opens up to you.
You can see the peaks of the Alpine Ridge along the northern ridge top. As you approach tree line, the terrain opens up significantly, making for spectacular views. After a long climb, a total of 4.5 miles from the trailhead, you finally reach the top, a saddle at 9700 feet with great views in all directions.
You can see the Uinta Mountains on the eastern horizon, Mount Timpanogos and Box Elder Peak to the south, and the entire Alpine Ridge to the north, including the peaks of some of the Little Cottonwood Canyon ski resorts."

The coords listed on the cache page will put you in the parking area for the trail head. Meeting time will be 7AM and we will depart @ 7:30AM.

Driving Directions:
Take I-15 South/North to the Highland/Alpine/Thanksgiving Point Exit.

Travel East 2 blocks to Grove Drive @ N40.27.346 W111.46.477 and turn Left onto Grove Drive.
Travel North/East on Grove Drive to the coords listed on the cache page. Make sure you stay on Grove Drive.

This hike will take most of the day to complete.
Come prepared for approx. 10 miles of difficult hiking. Bring plenty of water, a lunch and some snacks. A very sturdy pair of waterproof hiking boots, gaiters, gloves, long pants, day-pack, camera, and trekking poles are all highly recommended.

There are 13 caches along the route. During this hike, we will attempt to find as many as possible but the focus will be on the CoolCaches in the area:
Stayin' Alive Too!
Cougar
Wild America
Abby's Rescue
Breather
Fallschirmjager
These caches are the main goal, any others will be a bonus. You will want to come prepared with some quality trade items.

I have never done this hike. However, it is a popular horse ridding spot and the trail should be very easy to follow.

Coolcache himself is trying to make this event

If you don't feel as if you can make the entire hike with us, come out and do as much as you can. I will still let you have credit for attending the event.
Hope to see you there!
