Sleeping Beauty. Also known as Mount Genevieve, this hike
has a terrain rating of 5 for a reason. Be warned that this hike is
very strenuous and difficult, involving pull-ups on ropes. There
are no real switchbacks-basically straight up.
The cache is placed at the top of the Tarundl Trail, as it opens
into a beautiful alpine meadow, which also contains a small alpine
lake. Also know that there is a lot of snow in the winter, and as
it is, the hike is slippery at the best of times.
Hike Information
Rating Strenuous. Steep trail with minimal maintenance.
Time: Allow 2 hours for ascent and 1.5 hours for
descent.
Description: Sleeping beauty is located in a Crescent of
alpine peaks 13km NW of Queen Charlotte City and is visible from
town. Logging roads give access to the trailhead in the basin below
the peaks. The trail begins in the forest along Tarundl Creek and
soon begins a steep climb to a ridge. The ridge leads to an open
alpine meadow with a final steep ascent to the peak. Non-technical
climb which requires good fitness and footwear due to rough
steepness. Well marked with tape and tags, but route is not always
obvious at first glance.
