Geocache Description:

An ammo can hidden under palmetto leaves. Follow the trails and bushwhack the last 40 feet.

On August 16, 2002, I was browsing the wheresgeorge.com website and saw a link to something called geocaching. I clicked on the link and was intrigued by the thought of finding hidden containers. I also noticed that there were two geocaches five miles away at UCF. I though it would also be a fun family activity for my baby monkeez, aged 3, 6, and 8.

Our first find was UCFi on August 18, 2002. The monkeez had a good time finding the cache despite the mosquitoes, bushwhacking and August heat. I took a couple digital photos and logged our find later that day.

Back in August of 2002 there was a handful of geocachers in the Orlando area, very few of whom are still active today. There were a few dozen caches sprinkled throughout Orlando and Winter Park. Fast-forward five years. There are many active geocachers throughout Central Florida and hundreds of caches in the Orlando area. And my little 8-year old monkee? He's now a teenaged surf punk.

To commemorate the 5-year anniversary of our first find, we placed a geocache at the site of the original UCFi cache. The posted coordinates are recommended parking.
