Boone County Farm Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Team Tiltonites: Apparently, the local Barney's now have an issue with the placement of this cache (They did not when the cache was originally placed). Rather than press the issue, we will archive this cache. We may relocate and issue as a new cache as this is a neat spot to visit.

Geocache Description:

The cache is a camo covered peanut butter jar size container. In addition to a log book and pencils, there is a crisp one dollar bill for the FTF. Container has trade items.

The Boone County Infirmary Cemetery or Boone County Farm Cemetery, as it was called in later years, is located in southeast Lebanon, IN. This circa 1850 cemetery contains at least 140 graves. The cemetery was used primarily for those individuals which had no families, were paupers or were indigents. Many of the graves are of the unknown and unidentifiable.

Research found the three unidentifiable graves are those belonging to a male ran over by a train in 1917, a homicide victim found in 1930 and an infant girl found in a ditch in 1932. Unknown circumstances had brought each of these victims to this final resting place.

It is well worth taking the time to tour this small plot of land which serves as a glimpse into Boone County History. Many of the head stones are missing. The ones that remain are very difficult to read. The records and history are very sketchy.

Congrats to 'IN5explores' for being the FTF!
