EN:
The Star Quarry
The first reference of this quarry comes from 1940, but the mining started even earlier. It used to be a quarry for gravel and shiver. This material was used for repairs of public roads nearby. The stone contained crystalic varieties of flint (smokestone, amethyst, rock-crystal) and also calcite, crystals of barytes and mostly achate almonds. This quarry is also the place where a geode with diameter of 80cm (~2.5 ft), that is now saved in the collection of Klenotnice (Jewel museum) in Nova Paka.

Technical data:
Original name of quarry: Za Horama (Behind the Mountains)
Age of stones: Permocarbon
Average yearly production: 300 - 400m3
Mining methods: manual, explosives
Number of employees: 2 - 3

It is possible to access the quarry by several ways:
Train: take the train to station Stara Paka, follow the marked yellow tourist path towards Karlov. When you reach the crossing with green marked path, turn right and after about 100 m follow your GPS. It will lead you to the quarry and hopefully to the cache. (Total about 2 km = 1,2 miles)
Car to parking: Drive from Stara Paka towards Karlov, then follow the yellow tourist path and park just after the railway crossing, there is space for 1-2 vehicles), follow yellow path as described above. (Total under 1 km = 0,6 miles)
Walk: from Nova Paka follow the yellow tourist path over the Stara Paka Mountain to the quarry and then walk further to the Stara Paka nadrazi (train station). (Total about 8 km = 5 miles)

Please don't drive the whole way to the quarry. First we don't want to provoke the locals and we also want you to stretch your body .

The cache is placed on a safe place, it is not necessary to climb any rocks.

Please trade only thematic materials related to the quarry and mining (interesting stones, minerals…) + GC & TB.
