Geocache Description:

Just when you think you have wing-it figured out, he throws you a curve ball. This is a two stage multi with a small container for trade items placed to satisfy the ideals of three of my caching buddies who grumble at the sight of another road side park and grab. Not the best place for a kayak launching but can be done. There are kayak rentals across the river.

At the first stage you will have to obtain some numbers to do a little simple addition and subtraction. I found this location while looking for another place to catch Blue Crabs. Be thankful you can see the number 15 at stage one. When you do, find the letter “A” in the word “Above” and add the number next to it to 475 to obtain thelast two digits in N41*17.4XX. Next look for the number next to “N” in the word Mean and subtract it from 622 to obtain the last 2 digits in W072* 18.6XX. This will make perfect sense when you see the sign. You are now ready to find the final cache. Start at the waters edge next to the bridge and use your gpsr to lead the way. Except for the first 100 yards which at high tide could be under water, you will be walking on an abandoned road. What a surprise you will have at the final location. I think this area was very popular with people from the mid 1700’s. See what you think? I would love to read in your log a little more History, please be creative. I will start by saying, Roger Griswold, a former Connecticut Governor stayed at this location and was joined by many relatives of importance throughout the years. Roger Griswold 1762-1812, American political leader, b. Lyme, Conn.; son of Matthew Griswold . A Connecticut lawyer, he entered politics and, as U.S. Congressman (1795-1805), was a vigorous Federalist and a virulent critic of President Jefferson's administration, going so far as to advocate seriously the separation of New England from the Union. He was lieutenant governor of Connecticut (1809-11), and governor (1811-12). As governor he expressed Connecticut's attitude toward the war with England by withholding the state militia from the command of federal officers, thereby causing a test case on the clause in the Constitution dealing with the authority of the President to requisition the state militia. Ruling on the case, the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the President's authority. Now it is your turn. You will not have to enter the boundaries of this very historic area to find the cache, only to obtain more notable history. Please be very respectful of the surroundings while obtaining data
