Looking for somewhere to place those larger travel bugs, then
this may be the cache for you.
Located on the Mercer Bay loop walk, the cache is close to a
lookout point that gives the best views to the south, towards the
Whatipu sand flats. There used to be a better viewpoint, but this
is now closed, partially due to unstable cliffs, but more likely
political correctness gone mad.
Terrain rating is for the whole loop, it is easier to do a
return trip, as long as you take the correct entry. For once in the
Waitakeries, mud should not be an issue, but sensible shoes are
advised.
Keep an eye on younger members of the family
as there are cliffs nearby.
Despite some of the posted times, you should be able to complete
the loop and find the cache in under an hour.
The cache is a large ammo can placed approximately 10 meters off
the track on level ground. Please ensure it is hidden well prior to
your departure, there is plenty of material around with which to
hide.
There is a prize for the FTF, however you will need to be over
18 in order to redeem it.
