#756 - The Quest! Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

geojammers: After much consideration and the fact that the hiding spot is just getting more and more poison oak growing around it the last few years, it's time to put this one to rest. Sorry folks...

#756 – The Quest!
Love him or hate him, asterisks or not, Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants became baseball’s Home Run King on Tuesday August 7, 2007.History was made that night when Barry Bonds slammed a 3-2 pitch from pitcher Mike Bacsik into the bleachers of right straightaway center field in the fifth inning of the Giants' game with the Washington Nationals.

Geobrigade and Geojammers were there with our Cub Scout Pack to witness this historic home run along with a sell out crowd of 43,154 people. It was without a doubt the most exciting baseball game we have ever been to.Barry Bonds’ 756th home run had barely finished its 435’ trip out to the center field bleachers when Geojammers heard Geobrigade yelling at the top of his lungs, and above the roar of the crowd and explosive fireworks, “WE NEED TO DO A CACHE FOR THIS!!” And of course Geojammers yelled back, “PERFECT!!”. Are we “Obsessed”? Perhaps.

To commemorate this exciting event, we have decided to team up and hit one outta the park for you (sorry about that!) by making this a puzzle cache.

*Step 1– Find out what day Barry Bonds hit some of his milestone home runs.

*Step 2 – Do the math. Here’s your puzzle:

A = What day did Bonds hit home run #1?

B = What day did Bonds hit home run #100?

C = What day did Bonds hit home run #200?

D = What day did Bonds hit home run #300?

E = What day did Bonds hit home run #400?

F = What day did Bonds hit home run #500?

G = What day did Bonds set the single season home run record by hitting his 73rd home run of that season?

H = What day did Bonds hit home run #600?

I = What day did Bonds hit home run #661 to surpass his godfather, Willie Mays, for third place in career home runs?

J = What day did Bonds hit home run #700?

K = What day did Bonds hit home run #715 to surpass Babe Ruth for second place in career home runs?

L = What day did Bonds hit home run #756 to surpass Hank Aaron for first place in career home runs?

Here’s your math:

A + E – C = Q

F + G + H – I = R

J – B + D = S

A + L = T

H + J – C = U

K + C – I = V

J + D – C – A = W

A + I = X

D + F – B = Y

A + D – J + G = Z

Here’s your coordinates: N 38º QR.STU W 122º VW.XYZ

Please note that there is a special bag that is clearly marked “These are the logs, please do not take!” Do not take them as trade items. Our special request is that you sign BOTH logs, as we are going to collect them like any good sports memorabilia. Thank you.

Just for fun, go to Google Maps on this page and click on Hybrid, then zoom in to see the false coordinate's "position". Also, once you find the cache, you might want to read the note that we added to the bottom of the, “This is a geocache…” statement.

On a personal note, this was a lot of fun to do with Geobrigade. Just so you know, this was a complete joint effort. Geobrigade came up with the idea to do a tribute cache during the game (but you knew that, right?), the title, the logs, and the majority of the great swag you will find. Geojammers came up with the puzzle, it's concept, the coordinates and the cache container. We laughed and schemed like kids all the way to the final hide. An all around great experience.

Have fun, geojammers

Happy Geocaching! Geobrigade

By the way...once you are near the obvious ground zero "structure" you should be looking up hill at the site. To avoid any poison oak, approach from the right hand side and move in.

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
