Don't come if it isn't DARK! This is a great moonlight stroll through some great trails.
We had done a couple of night caches over the past couple of years. We even did one on New Years Eve 2005 (GCQ9Z9). It was a fantastic experience and we kept saying "we need to make a night cache". Well here it is for your enjoyment. But if you show up at the parking lot and you can't say "Man, is it dark", then you are too early and you won't be able to complete the task.
BRING FLASHLIGHTS! BRING EXTRA BATTERIES! BRING FRIENDS! It's a great experience! WAYPOINT THE CAR! TURN ON TRACKS!
The Mobbs Parking area is on Fitzsimonds road at N: 44deg 27.247, W: 72deg 59.147. From there head down the road to the trail head at 44deg 27.021, W: 72deg 59.133. Now you can head to the starting coords (given at the top of the cache page). Once there, look around and you will see the light! You can now ignore the GPSr, just follow the squares of light. They will lead you to the goodies. The trek will follow different trails used for mountain biking and hiking. We bushwhacked very seldom, only to change trails and we chose very clear routes.
BRING EXTRA BATTERIES! BRING EXTRA FLASHLIGHTS! BRING FRIENDS!
You will know when you arrive at the goodies. It is a multi-trunk tree (8+) with 5 markers in it. As QMom said, you will feel like you are on top of the world when you are there. If you start seeing triangle lights you have gone too far!
DID WE MENTION TO BRING FRIENDS? EXTRA BATTERIES? LIGHTS?
Once you have found the goodies, continue your trek by following the mix of yellow/brown triangles of light mixed in with the squares. The triangles are used as reminders that you are headed back. These will lead you to your car at the given parking coords.
BRING EXTRA BATTERIES! BRING FLASHLIGHTS! BRING FRIENDS!
CAUTION:
The last 100 meters or so has a tricky spot in the trail. It has a somewhat hidden 3 foot drop and so we are very careful to lead you AROUND the area. So when you come to the spot with the old abandoned cars, we lead you through a little bushwhack that does a little zig and then a zag. Just follow the light and watch your step.
The round trip is 1.2 miles and we hope is a ton of fun!
HAVE A GREAT TIME!
