One of the few stretches of beach where you can walk for miles and
possibly see no one.
Though it is the most northern Point, the most northern tip of Oahu
is located about 1 mile west, where benchmark
TU1487 is located. Cache was place during a coastal walk
from Kahuku Golf Course to Turtle Bay Resorts. From the parking lot
near Kahuku Golf course, you walk north, mauka of the golf course.
You will actually cross over one of the fairways, so watch out. We
were lucky that the golfers were already on the green when we were
crossing over.
If you if just intend to walk to the cache and back, here are
things you might want to know:
From the Golf Course to the cache, the tradewinds help keep you
cool, but because of this, the beach is an eye sore of drift trash.
(about 2.8 miles)
From Turtle Bay, significantly less to no wind make for a hotter
hike, but the shores are cleaner. (about 2.2 miles)
From both sides, the water is beautiful.
It may look like an easy approach from the end of Marconi Road, but
I think it ends all in private property, with the road blocked by
gates clearly mark as such.
If you have the cars, take the time to walk the entire stretch, its
well worth it.
Please rehide well, fishermen use this area.
(01/27/2008)Thanks to the Queenbee and crew for replacing the
cache.
It's a long walk and the salt air destroys pens, so BYOP, Bring
Your Own Pen.
